Checklist for Signs of Depression
What is Depression?
The American Psychiatric Association defines depression as a common, serious but treatable medical condition that negatively affects how people feel, think and act. It can decrease the ability to function and can cause feelings of sadness and/or loss of interest in activities once enjoyed.
- Sadness - Feelings or sadness or being in a depressed mood
- Enjoyment - Loss of interest/enjoyment in activities once enjoyed
- Appetite - Weight gain or loss
- Sleeping - Issues sleeping or sleeping too much
- Tiredness - Feeling tired, lack of energy and fatigue
- Activity - Increase or decrease in activity
- Aches - Joint and back pains, digestive issues
- Self-Worth - Feeling "empty", guilty, hopeless or worthless
- Thinking - Having a hard time thinking, concentrating or making decisions
- Harm - Thoughts of death or suicide
- Withdrawal - Withdrawal from friends and society
- Noise - Need for background noise, fear of being left alone with thoughts
- Pretending - Feeling of pretending in front of others
- Breakdowns - Breaking down over small things due to feeling of life falling apart
